The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has announced the launch of activities marking the 28th anniversary of its inception.

The announcement came in a news conference held on Tuesday outside the house of Sheikh Mohamed Taha, one of its prominent founders, in al-Bureij refugee camp in Gaza, which was attended by Hamas officials, lawmakers, dignitaries and scores of citizens.

Senior Hamas official Ziyad Abu Zaid stated in an opening speech that Hamas was born a mature movement, and 28 of its age had made it stronger and more steadfast in defending the Palestinian rights.

Abu Zaid stressed that Gaza, which had fought three wars, defended all Palestine and not only itself.

Earlier, Hamas had announced there will not be a central ceremony in Gaza to celebrate the movement’s 28th anniversary, noting that the resources needed by a grand activity will be dedicated to supporting Jerusalem intifada and raising the issue of prisoners in occupation jails as well as the 4 abductees in Egypt.
