The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas urged on Thursday human rights groups to intervene to save life of Palestinian detainee Maher al-Akhras and end his administrative detention.

In a press release, Hamas Spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanoa reiterated his movement’s solidity with al-Akhras, who has been on an open-ended hunger strike for the 74th day protesting against his administrative detention in Israeli prisons.

Al-Qanoa slammed administrative detention policy adopted by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian detainees as a “crime and a violation of humanitarian laws and international conventions.”

“Al-Akras’ determination to continue his hunger strike reflects the legendary steadfastness of Palestinian prisoners in their struggle for their legitimate rights,” al-Qanoa stressed.
