Early days:

• Said Seyam was born in 1959 at al-Shati’ refugee camp in Gaza. His family originally lived at the ethnically cleansed al-Joura village before the 1948 Nakba.
• He graduated in 1980 with a degree in mathematics.
• Seyam was a respected religious preacher and a well-known social figure.

In Hamas:

• He served 4 times in occupation’s prisons.
• 1992: Deported to Marj al-Zuhoor along with 400 Palestinian activists and leaders (See The Mass Deportation of 1992).
• 1995: Detained by the Palestinian intelligence services due to his membership in Hamas.
• Held the office of foreign relations in Hamas.

Public service:

• 2006: He was chosen to be a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council with a sweeping 76,000 votes.
• 2006: He was appointed the Minister of Interior.
• Following what amounted to a mutiny by the PA’s security forces, he formed the executive force to control a deteriorating security situation.
• 2006: Survived an Israeli attempt for his life when IAF targeted his office.
• 2007: Ministry of Interior takes control all over the Gaza Strip, ending a state of turmoil that destabilized the Gaza Strip.
• 2008: Occupation's air forces synchronously strike all security stations. 250 Policemen killed.
• Hours later, Siyam managed to restore the presence of police forces in the streets.

Martyrdom:

• 15^th January 2009: Israeli fighters bombed Siyam’s brother’s house. Siyam, his son and brother were killed. In spite of fear, thousands of Palestinians participated in the massive funeral.
