Member of Hamas Political Bureau Dr Moahmmad Nazzal stated on Tuesday that his movement is still expecting more measures to be taken by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to provide positive atmosphere for elections.

In an interview with the Quds Web channel, the senior Hamas official noted that the agreements reached by the Palestinian factions in Cairo National Dialogue are now being implemented on the ground, indicating that the PA President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a presidential decree on protecting freedom of expression and campaigning.

“But we still wait for other measures to promote a more positive, optimistic atmosphere for holding the elections,” he added.

He mentioned that the last round of talks between Hamas and Fatah was very serious and more progress has been made in the recent meetings.

Regarding Hamas’s preparedness for the elections, he explained that the movement has formed three committees to follow up the electrical process, including a higher one presided over by Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.

He continued: “We are in contact with Fatah and the other Palestinian factions, and there will be meetings with the factions in the short run to decide on the most appropriate way for Hamas and the factions to participate in the elections.”

The Hamas official indicated that the Israeli occupation has been trying to sabotage the elections and takes many measures to push the movement to fail.

“But the Palestinian people are free and will not let anyone intervene in their vote,” Nazzal concluded.
