The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas registered on 29 March its electoral list for the Palestinian Legislative Council election –the first stage of the Palestinian elections– at the office of the Central Elections Commission in Gaza under the name of “Al-Quds is our Destiny,” which includes candidates from Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Israeli prisons.

This move is a new step to go ahead with this national path and democratic process until completing all stages of the election process and rebuilding the Palestinian political system, especially the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), on the basis of national pluralism and partnership.

Hamas is waiting for the approval of its list by the Central Elections Commission as per the election laws.

Carrying the name of “Al-Quds is our Destiny,” the list highlights the central significance of Jerusalem and that it is the essence of the Palestinian cause, reiterating the necessity for all Palestinians to unite at all levels in the struggle to liberate it as a capital of the independent Palestinian state.  

Hamas reaffirms the necessity to hold the Palestinian election in occupied Jerusalem and for all Palestinians to embody a strong sense of unity in the face of the Israeli occupation and for the sake of Jerusalem and its steadfast residents.

The Palestinian Resistance Movement is very keen on strengthening the Palestinian Home Front, reinforcing national unity and entrenching the foundations of joint national work, as it views the election with all of its stages as a crucial step to achieve this goal and an entry point for a comprehensive struggle strategy, in which all Palestinian factions can take part to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinians for freedom and return.

Hamas has presented a 132-member list for the parliament that represents the national and societal aspirations of the Palestinians.

Headed by member of Hamas Political Bureau Dr Khalil al-Hayya, the list includes national, societal and syndicate figures, in addition to prominent detainees and academics.

The candidates, about a third of whom are women and more than a third are youth, includes also a wide range of people of expertise in management, environment, medicine, engineering, law, political sciences and religion.

Hamas will do its best to facilitate the success of the Palestinian election in order to present a civilised and democratic image that they deserve for the great sacrifices they have made to restore their freedom.
