Hamas to reach roadmap with factions after elections’ cancellation

Member of Hamas Political Bureau Husam Badran said on Saturday that the movement has started to contact many Palestinian factions and electoral lists to put forward an applicable roadmap aimed at preserving the Palestinian people’s right to elect their leaders.

Member of Hamas Political Bureau Husam Badran said on Saturday that the movement has started to contact many Palestinian factions and electoral lists to put forward an applicable roadmap aimed at preserving the Palestinian people’s right to elect their leaders.

In an interview with Al-Aqsa TV Channel, the senior Hamas official said that the movement wants to discuss the situation with all factions and electoral lists following Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's unilateral decision to postpone the elections.

“Such dialogue is aimed at proposing a strategy about how to deal with the coming stage,” he added.

Badran pointed out that there is a consensus among the Palestinian factions on the necessity to hold the elections, stressing that no one can deprive the Palestinians of this right.

He confirmed Abbas’s decision to backtrack on national agreements and endeavours to heal the Palestinian division is not acceptable.

The Hamas official called on the party that cancelled the vote to provide “something tangible” for the Palestinians to regain their trust it again, confirming that Hamas does not accept “partial reforms” but a serious change ensuring the participation of all the Palestinian factions.

“The situation in Palestinian after cancelling the elections is never like the conditions before,” Badran pointed out.

The senior Hamas official noted that the movement has made serious compromises to facilitate holding the elections, concluding Hamas will not cooperate with any party in a losing battle as it places the interests of the Palestinian people first.
