A high-ranking Hamas delegation left the Gaza Strip to arrive at Cairo today, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated in a brief press release on Saturday.

The delegation includes senior Hamas leaders Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, Khalil Al-Hayya and Imad Al-Alami, and is headed by the deputy chief of Hamas’s political bureau Mousa Abu Marzook.

“The delegation will meet with the chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service,” Abu Zuhri stated.

“The meeting will discuss the relations between Hamas and Egypt, as well as issues pertaining to the situation in the Gaza Strip and Rafah crossing,” he underlined.

Abu Zuhri stressed Hamas is keen to turn a new page and maintain strong ties with Cairo, noting the importance of the Egyptian role in Palestine.
