The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have detained 647 Palestinians in March, a joint report by several Palestinian human rights institutions revealed Friday.

According to the report, 128 minors and 16 females were among 647 Palestinians detained in March, elevating the total number of Palestinians IOF had detained since the beginning of the Jerusalem intifada (uprising) in October to over 4760.

The majority of arrests were made in Jerusalem (110), followed by Jenin, Ramallah and Bethlehem.

Five Palestinians from Gaza were arrested while passing through Erez, including three patients who were seeking treatment.

The report stated that the Israeli occupation had in March issued 192 new administrative detention orders, elevating the total number of administrative detainees in Israeli prisons to over 750.

It also showed that by the end of March, over 400 Palestinian minors and 68 female prisoners remained held in Israeli lockups.

Arrests over Facebook posts

The Israeli occupation had since October detained 148 Palestinians over Facebook posts. Detainees were charged with “incitement”.

Most arrests were carried out in Jerusalem, where many were detained for posts that reflected their solidarity with detainees or families of martyrs killed during the intifada, while others were exiled from Jerusalem or fired from their public service jobs. Others were sent to administrative detention.
