Hamas Movement considered the statements made by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, ‘important and pivotal’, as the remarks shed light on the continued Israeli occupation's violations against the Palestinian people and holy places. She also described the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories as “disastrous”. 

The UN Commissioner highlighted the Israeli occupation's siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 15 years, its damaging repercussions on all aspects of the Palestinians' lives,  and the need to break the siege immediately to achieve peace and sustainable development. 

We believe that such statements confirm the findings in tens of similar reports issued by international organisations and UN bodies. These reports clearly condemn the Israeli occupation’s practices and crimes against the Palestinian people. 

Therefore, the international community should stop complicity with the occupation and take practical steps towards ending the occupation, halting its aggression against our Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to liberation, independence, and right to return.
