The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas condemns the European Union's signing of Horizon Europe research and development program with the Israeli occupation, allowing it to join the world's largest scientific research program.
The agreement excludes the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and Syria's Golan Heights from the program, and will encourage the Israeli occupation to continue research to develop the Israeli occupation army-owned firms that will provide it with advanced weapons used to commit crimes against the Palestinian people, just as the 2020 Horizon, which offers grants to companies based in illegal colonial settlements and Israeli occupation military-owned firms.
Such deals give the Israeli occupation a sense of immunity and impunity for its continued crimes as it feels relieved to know that it will not be brought under international pressure to abide by international conventions and recognize Palestinian rights.
Hamas urges the EU, which claims to be supporting stability and international law and the Palestinians' right to an independent state, to reassess its relationship with the Israeli occupation and place pressure on it, at all levels and with all means possible, to respond to global efforts calling for an end to the occupation and the siege and recognise the Palestinians' genuine rights.
