Member of Hamas Political Bureau Husam Badran said that the movement is committed to achieving national unity and upholding the constants of the Palestinian people.

In an interview at the Al-Aqsa TV channel, Badran called for healing the Palestinian rift to shield the Palestinian national project.

The Israeli occupation is “the only loser” when ending the division and achieving unity, describing unity as “essential” to protect the national project, the Hamas official said. “Hamas and its members unanimously agree that national unity is a must.”

Badran explained that achieving unity requires a “brave decision” from the Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas, noting that unity is essential to preserve the resistance and the Palestinian constants. “We are committed to the national unity and extend our hands to everyone [to achieve this goal].”

The Hamas official explained that the PA’s decision to cancel the Palestinian vote had made the Palestinian conditions “worse”, emphasizing that unity is the only way out of this dilemma. “That the previous reconciliation agreements were not implemented created a deadlock, as well.”

As the Palestinian people strongly back Hamas, Badran confirmed, the movement is committed to resisting the Israeli occupation with all means possible and is able to stand steadfast in the face of pressures. “The Sword of Jerusalem battel is an example of Palestinians’ widespread support for Hamas, which is the most popular force in Palestine.”

Badran pointed out that the issue of the Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation jails is on top of Hamas’s agenda, and the movement will continue to work towards freeing them.

Palestine is for the Palestinians, and the Israeli occupation must be resisted, until independence and liberation, the Hamas official concluded.
