Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum stated the following:

Today marks the 29th anniversary of banishing 415 Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials and members to Marj al-Zohour in southern Lebanon by the Israeli occupation following a resistance operation by the Al-Qassam Brigades, in which it abducted and killed Israeli occupation soldier Nissim Toledano.

By taking such a move, the Israeli occupation thought that it had killed the spirit of revolution and resistance for the Palestinian people and resistance factions and undermined the Palestinian First Intifada, which outlined the features of that stage and changed the course of struggle with the Israeli occupation.

Deportation to Marj al-Zohour was a major event that Hamas and Islamic Jihad celebrated as a significant milestone and a turning point in the history of Palestinian resistance.

By standing steadfast and resilient, insisting on returning to their homeland, and standing up for Palestinian rights, the Palestinian deportees set a new example in mobilizing the Arab and Muslim world and how to manage the struggle with the Israeli occupation and impose equations on it.
