The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas followed with deep sorrow the drowning of eight Palestinian refugees from Syria, including women and children.

The victims drowned in the Mediterranean as they were trying to reach Europe in quest for a decent life that they could not find in the countries they were living in and to protect themselves and their families from the bombing.
We, in Hamas, hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the humanitarian tragedy that Palestinian refugees around the world suffer from and not allowing them to return to their towns and villages from which they were forced out.
The continued tragic drowning incidents and the scenes of Syria's Palestinian refugees being buried alive in the sea reflects an angle of the Palestinian Nakba that the Palestinian people experienced for more than 70 years ago, during which Zionist gangs committed heinous assaults and massacres against them.
We stress that providing Palestinian refugees everywhere with protection and a decent life is a humanitarian responsibility that the host countries should shoulder.
They are committed to their legitimate rights, foremost among them is their right to return to their homes from which they were expelled.
All Arab and Muslim nations and the international community, in addition to the free peoples of the world also have to assume this responsibility.
We call on humanitarian organisations and international human rights groups to immediately act to protect Palestinian refugees and offer them a decent life amid crises they face in the host countries.
May Allah shower the drowned Palestinian martyrs with His mercy and achieve the Palestinians' dream of returning to their homeland.
