The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas stated the following:

The second season of the Jerusalem International Week will be marked on 24 February – 3 March and will be attended by Muslim scholars from around more than 140 organisations across the Muslim world, foremost among them is the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

This year's season, which will commemorate the Isra and Mi'raj journey and the anniversary of liberating Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem Muslim leader Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi on 8 October 1187, comes as the Israeli occupation is escalating its aggression on occupied Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque through its settler-colonial and Judaisation schemes and its attempts to impose a temporal and spatial division at the Al-Aqsa compound, displace Palestinian Jerusalemites, demolish their homes, impose tight restrictions on them, and confiscate their lands.

The Jerusalem International Week also comes as the Israeli occupation is intensifying its assaults on the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 and is targeting every aspect of the Palestinian cause.

As it hails this international initiative in support of Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which are the core of the Palestinian struggle with the Israeli occupation, and the Palestinian people, Hamas calls for mass participation in these activities held to endorse the Palestinians' legitimate right to defend their lands and holy sites, above all Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In light of this, we state the following:

First: Defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and protecting them from the Israeli occupation and its aggression and crimes is a joint responsibility that lies with the Arab and Muslim world, including scholars, preachers, leaders, figures, governments, peoples, and organisations. This is an honour for anyone who assumes this responsibility to put it at the top of their priorities until the Palestinian people achieve their aspirations for liberation and return.

Second: The Jerusalem International Week is a suitable opportunity for the Arab and Muslim nations to renew their commitment to defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and supporting the Palestinian cause at the political, media, humanitarian, and charity levels.

Third: We salute Palestinian citizens of Jerusalem who repel Israeli occupation raids and colonial settler violence against the Al-Aqsa Mosuqe, the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, and the Bab al-Amud area. We emphasise the importance for the Jerusalem International Week to reinforce their steadfast and back their uprising against the Israeli occupation, as they are defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa compound on behalf of the whole Arab and Muslim world.

Fourth: We call on the Palestinian people, the Arab and Muslim nations, and the free peoples of the world to effectively take part in these activities with all means possible and across all political, media, charity, and humanitarian platforms in support of Jerusalem and its Palestinian population and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
