Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip Yehya al-Sinwar received on Friday afternoon Mustafa al-Barghouthi, head of the Palestinian National Initiative, accompanied by a senior delegation, in his office in Gaza City.
The meeting, which comes as part of an effort to boost national Palestinian work and achieve national unity, focused on various political developments concerning the Palestinian cause at the domestic and international levels.
Reiterating the necessity to follow up global developments and their repercussions on the Palestinian cause, both delegations called for mobilising international efforts and solidarity to endorse Palestinian rights and reject double-standards policies.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of reaching out to the international community and work on putting an end to the Israeli occupation's arrogance and its oppression, racial discrimination, land grab, and suppression of Palestinian detainees in its prisons.
They hailed the efforts being exerted by Egypt and Algeria to unify the Palestinian people on the basis of a national resistance program so they can restore their rights.
In addition, they reiterated the necessity to hold comprehensive Palestinian elections, foremost among them is the National Council election.
Both sides also discussed how to enhance their bilateral ties in a way so that they can serve the Palestinians' interests and their national cause.
