Hamas spokesperson Jihad Taha said Sunday that Hamas rejects the statements by UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini about transferring UNRWA services to other international agencies.
In a press statement, Taha explained that Lazzarini's remarks "target the Palestinian refugee issue and UNRWA's key role in serving and aiding Palestinian refugees, for whom UNRWA was established."
The Hamas official called on the UN body to completely assume its responsibilities and meet its commitments towards Palestinian refugees, who are living in harsh economic and social conditions.
He continued: "UNRWA has a duty to secure relief supplies and services for the Palestinian refugees who were forcefully displaced from their homes until they return to their homeland."
Taha, meanwhile, urged the Palestinian people to push back against this policy aimed at dissolving UNRWA and liquidating the Palestinian refugee issue as part of a plot orchestrated by some regional and international parties.
