Hamas spokesman Husam Badran stated that Mohammed al-Qeiq’s victory is a victory for Palestine, its people, and prisoners especially those held in administrative detention.
In a press statement on Thursday, Badran said that the victory showcases Palestinian steadfastness and proves that Palestinians can defeat their enemy.
“The Israeli occupation submitted to al-Qeiq’s demands after he showed heroic steadfastness over 94 consecutive days.” He underlined.
Badran pointed to the immense public support for al-Qeiq, praising the role of Palestinian journalists who stood behind al-Qeiq and raised his case to the whole world.
“This victory will certainly strengthen the Palestinian prisoners’ determination,” he added.
Al-Qeiq ended a 94-day-long hunger strike after an agreement with Israeli officials to release him on May 21 with no renewal to his arbitrary detention.
Currently, over 500 Palestinian detainees are under the arbitrary arrest known as “administrative detention”, which is imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months and which can be renewed indefinitely.
