Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has phoned UN Middle East Envoy Tor Wennesland, expressing his appreciation of his efforts that led to an end to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. 

The Hamas chief underscored the importance of the UN secretary-general's role to end the Israeli siege on Gaza, put an end to Israeli settlers' raids into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and release Palestinian detainees, in addition to pressing the Israeli occupation to abide by UN general assembly's resolutions calling for ending the occupation, allowing the return of Palestinian refugees, and establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
