Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said that the movement will keep its promise for Palestinian detainees who escaped the Gilboa prison a year ago. 

A year ago, six Palestinian detainees incarcerated in the maximum-security jail of Gilboa managed to break free from it before they were re-detained after a long man-hunt.

As the detainees escaped through an underground tunnel in the prison's drainage system, this event was later described by Palestinians as the ‘Tunnel of Freedom’ battle. 

In a statement, the Hamas spokesperson hailed the Palestinians detained in Israeli jails and confirmed that the movement works towards freeing them. 

“Hamas salutes all Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails and vows that setting them free is a top priority.”
