Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has offered his congratulations to Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on his election as the country’s new president. 

“As we, in Hamas, congratulate your excellence on obtaining this position of responsibility, we express our faith in your ability to lead Iraq and its people towards development, security, progress, and prosperity,” Haniyeh said in a letter of congratulations addressed the newly-elected Iraqi president.  

Haniyeh hailed Iraq for its honourable role in supporting the Palestinian people and endorsing their legitimate rights and just cause.  

Lauding the close relationship between the Palestinian and Iraqi people, the Hamas chief wished Iraq a future of security, stability, and prosperity.
