Hamas official Basim Naim appreciated the Australian government's decision to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli occupation's capital and considered it a step in the right direction for world peace and stability.
Stressing that Jerusalem has been and will always be the core of the Palestinian people's freedom struggle against the Israeli occupation, Naim deemed such a step new evidence of the diplomatic failure of the Israeli occupation at the international level.
The Hamas official added that the Israeli occupation had been trying to impose a new reality to deny the Palestinians their rights, thus blatantly disregarding the international law regarding Jerusalem and sanctities.
He reiterated that the Palestinians' resistance and steadfastness in the face of Zionist brutality and racism for more than seven decades had strongly promoted such international transformations against the racist colonial project and in favor of the Palestinian narrative.
Hamas looks forward to further steps from Australia and other countries to support the Palestinians' rights and hold the Israeli occupation's leaders accountable for the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against our Palestinian people and sanctities, he confirmed.
