The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Saturday condemned the attempted military coup against democracy in Turkey.

In a press release, the Movement congratulated the great Turkish people and legitimate leadership for their victory over the failed coup attempt.

“We extend our congratulations to President Erdogan and the honorable Turkish parties and security forces for guarding democracy and freedom,” Hamas said, pointing out Turkey’s positions in support of Palestine and the Turkish efforts to lift the Israeli siege on Gaza.

An attempted military coup late on Friday was quashed after thousands of Turks answered President Erdogan's call and took to the streets in defiance of coup-plotters.
