Chairman of Hamas political bureau Khaled Meshaal has called on Turkey’s leaders to maintain the country’s concern about issues of the region despite recent unrest.

In an interview with TRT Arabic channel on Monday, Meshaal praised Turkey’s positions supporting Palestinians in the international arena and hailed its efforts to break the siege on Gaza.

“We are faithful to those who stand with us,” he stated, reiterating the Movement’s strong condemnation of the failed coup attempt.

“We pray to Allah to have mercy on the martyrs and bless the wounded with a speedy recovery,” Meshaal said, opining that the attempted coup aimed to weaken the country and undermine its achievements.

He stressed Hamas’s firm belief in democracy and freedom, adding that people’s choices must be respected at all costs.

“Turkey is a great country and a pioneer of Muslim nations,” he underlined, praising Turkish citizens for displaying impressive courage and awareness in front of coup-plotters.
