The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas welcomes the approval by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), by majority vote, of a resolution requesting the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Secretariat to dedicate its activities in 2023 to the commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba, including by organizing a high-level event at the General Assembly Hall on 15 May 2023.

Hamas considers this resolution a recognition by the United Nations of the tragedy that befell the Palestinian people through forced displacement that rendered them refugees in exile and the diaspora.

The movement also thanks the states that voted in favour of the resolution and sided with the just Palestinian cause, and calls on the international community to take serious steps to support the Palestinian people in their quest for freedom.

We call on the international community to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine that constitutes a continued tragedy for the Palestinian people featured by extrajudicial killings, unlawful arrests, homes’ demolitions, lands’ seizure, Islamic and Christian holy places’ desecration, and apartheid and discrimination policies.
