On this day each year, the Palestinian people at home and abroad mark Palestinian Journalist Day in recognition of their honourable role in embracing the Palestinian freedom struggle and national rights.
This day comes in appreciation of the sacrifices that they have made while conveying a media message supportive of the Palestinian legitimate rights and the Palestinian national constants and identity, embracing Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and exposing Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people and their lands and Muslim and Christian holy sites.
Adopted by the tenth Palestinian government in 2009, this day remains a critical national occasion to pay tribute to all Palestinian media practitioners, who are at the forefront of the Palestinian fight against the Israeli occupation.
They have been accurately and objectively reporting on every stage of the Palestinian national struggle in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948, and in diaspora, covering the plight of their people professionally and credibly, and exposing Israeli crimes against them.
We hail all Palestinian journalists at home and abroad for assuming their journalistic roles. We call for agreeing on a press moral code that embraces the Palestinian journalists' role and message, and provides them with a secure work environment and protection against Israeli crimes.
We urge human rights groups and humanitarian organisations to expose and condemn Israeli crimes against Palestinian media workers, and urgently work on prosecuting their perpetrators at international courts.
