Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has sent a document to Arab and Muslim leaders to explain in detail the policy of the new Zionist government towards the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its plans to assume absolute control over it.

Calling for urgent action and practical steps to protect the blessed Mosque, Haniyeh exposed the imminent danger the Palestinian holy places, foremost among them the Al-Aqsa Mosque, face as the most extremist cabinet of the Israeli occupation state takes office. 

This far-right Zionist government has escalated its aggression when the so-called Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, broke into the blessed Mosque on political and religious grounds, he added. 

The Hamas chairman said this is "a grave danger" that would plunge Palestine into escalation.

Since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967, the settler-colonial occupation has tried to tighten its grip on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the other holy places. But what is going on is very different and aims only at dividing the blessed Mosque and changing the status quo in a bid to have complete control over it.

Haniyeh warned that the escalation in Al-Aqsa, led by the occupation's extremist government's ministers affiliated with terrorist organisations that have killed and expelled Palestinians and burned their mosques, reflects the vision on which Zionism was founded. This escalation occurs as the Israeli occupation forces are holding thousands of Palestinians in jail, expanding colonial settlements, committing summary executions of Palestinians, denying them their rights, imposing a siege on Gaza, and refusing to grant Palestinian refugees their right to return.

Haniyeh added that the organised aggression by Israeli colonial settlers and ultra-extremist Zionists, under the protection of the Israeli occupation government, requires unifying all Arab and Muslim efforts to confront such aggressive measures. 

"We all have to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque with all means possible and block the extremist Israeli occupation government from taking control of the Mosque and dividing it temporally and spatially," concluded Haniyeh.
