The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has condemned the US State Department spokesperson's remarks against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Answering a question about the death of Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan in an Israeli occupation prison, Vedant Patel said that "We believe that all individuals, including prisoners, should be treated humanely … but the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is a designated foreign terrorist organisation."
Basem Naim, member of the Hamas politburo in the Gaza Strip, said the Israeli occupation is "practising state-sponsored terrorism against our Palestinian people, including Palestinian detainees."
In a press statement Wednesday, Naim pointed out that thousands of Palestinian detainees, including women, children, and sick and elderly people, are languishing in inhumane conditions in Israeli occupation jails.
He added that more than 800 Palestinian detainees are being held under administrative detention without charge or trial.
The Hamas official called on the US administration to end its "appalling bias" towards the fascist Israeli occupation, which persistently violates all international norms and laws.
