The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has welcomed a final resolution by the United Nations Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that denies any Jewish connection to the al-Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding areas, including the al-Buraq Wall, and acknowledges the holy site as a purely Islamic heritage.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri deemed the resolution a victory for the Palestinian cause.

“This resolution shatters the Israeli narrative regarding al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said.

On his part, Hamas leader Izzat al-Risheq commended the vote and expressed the appreciations of Palestinians and Muslims for countries that sponsored and voted in favor of the resolution.

“The adoption of this resolution marks a victory for the international community against Israeli extortion,” al-Risheq wrote on his Twitter page.
