The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has denounced outgoing UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon for rejecting the UNESCO’s adoption of a resolution on Tuesday confirming the holy al-Aqsa Mosque as a purely Islamic landmark.

“The Secretary General overstepped his authority when he criticized the resolution,” Hamas’s Sami Abu Zuhri said in a press statement on Wednesday, adding that as Secretary General, Ki-Moon should be representing and defending the official UN resolutions.

“Ki-Moon’s remarks illustrate his violating international resolutions in order to serve Israeli interests.” Abu Zuhri underlined.
