The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has strongly condemned and rejected the decision by Papua New Guinea to establish an embassy in occupied Jerusalem.

Hamas spokesperson Jehad Taha said this move constituted a flagrant infringement upon the Palestinian people's rights.

Taha called on the authorities of Papua New Guinea to backtrack on this decision, which goes against international law and UN resolutions recognising Jerusalem as a Palestinian city under foreign occupation.

He also urged the Papua New Guinean authorities to reconsider their ties with the settler-colonial occupation that "poses a threat to world peace and security" and persists in committing crimes against the Palestinian people, lands, and holy places.
