Deputy head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Mousa Abu Marzouk, said that Palestinian factions focused on political affairs and Russia’s role in the region and its support for Palestinian rights during a meeting that was held in Moscow. 

In a press statement, Abu Marzouk said that the meetings with their Russian counterparts  reviewed Moscow’s role in supporting the Palestinian people in the face of constant illegal settlement expansions and Judaization of Palestinian areas.

 The senior Hamas leader also said that the meeting discussed the incoming US President, Donald Trump, and his pledge to move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem. Yet, no further information was given about the outcome of the discussions.

 “The meeting also addressed the Russian role at the international level, especially since  Moscow is a member of the international Quartet for Middle East Peace, which imposed the siege on Gaza,” he went on to add.

In addition, Abu Marzouk pointed out that the meeting also addressed the results of the Palestinian National Council Preparatory Committee meetings on the Palestinian unity and building the Palestinian institutions, particularly the Palestinian National Council and the government of national unity.
