The former head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas”, Khalid Meshal , stressed that  a set of tasks await the new head of the Political Bureau of Hamas.

In his meeting with Al Jazeera , Meshal ,  who was named  ‘Person of the Week’ on  a survey made by Al Jazeera , stated Saturday evening that the the first concerns for the new leader are: Management of the conflict and development of resistance so it can  oust the Israeli occupation from all  Palestinian lands.   .

Meshal called for the combination of constants and variables without giving up the fundamental issues  of the Palestinian people, and for making a balance between power and politics. He assured  that the new leadership will deal wisely in this regard.

Meshal  emphasized the need for  Hamas  to deal with  the national project, and to strengthen its position, and to manage the political relations in the region with the utmost precision.

Meshal assured that the heaviest burden on  new leader’s  shoulders  are to maintain the cohesion of the home front of Hamas ,to unite the aspects of Hamas in light of its geographical dispersion, and to provide the necessities of money and arms

Meshal said that the most prominent characteristic of Hamas is its distinguished  democratic approach, emphasizing that  the leadership of Hamas at all levels are chosen through elections and Hamas institutions have strong symbolic figures. He pointed out that Shura  ( consultation) Councils are convened regularly and the elections are held adding that the institutional decision , which is not unique to anyone, is one of the internal strengths  of Hamas.

Meshal expressed his wishes to present the experience of the democratic Hamas  adding, "  If it weren’t for the   security conditions , we would invite people to attend the Shura Council, and perhaps hold a general conference where everyone could see for themselves that   leaders are not idolized; yet are  respected, and the power and decisioin making belongs to the  institution.”

Meshal condemned the punitive measures taken by PA president against Gaza Strip saying,  “  the fabrication of crises is not  ethical.” Meshal added that  Hamas who has faced three aggressions and  11  years of siege so far cannot be broken or  forced to surrender through fabricated crises.”

He urged  PA President, Mahmoud Abbas , to unite the Palestinian people before facing the world. He also   called  for lifting taxes imposed by PA on the fuel of the Gaza power plant.

Meshal concluded that Hamas has participated in the political process to back resistance and to change its former role of authority for the sake of the Palestinian people. He rejected   the notion of holding  Hamas accountable for Palestinian  split.
