The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in Lebanon said that accusations directed towards the movement of allegedly supporting and covering up for terrorist groups is aimed at distorting its resistance and its role in stabilizing Lebanese camps and the region and hitting the Palestinian consensus at its core according to the principle of "divide and rule".
In a statement released Monday, the movement described articles and statements circulated in some newspapers and media outlets in Lebanon as "suspicious, serving foreign agendas, and as being consistent with the American-Israeli agenda in considering Hamas a terrorist movement”.
It stressed that such claims are, "pure slander and lies based on no evidence”.
Hamas further clarified that these accusations aim to deliberately distort the role of Hamas in protecting the Palestinian presence in Lebanon, and achieving security and stability in the Palestinian and Lebanese society while cooperating with different Palestinian factions, Islamic forces, and concerned Lebanese authorities.
The statement pointed out that Hamas is now playing an active role with all those loyal to the Palestinian cause in taking serious decisive steps to counter any accusations serving foreign agendas aiming to destabilize the region and distort Hamas.
It added that the accusations filed against the resistance movement without evidence, and contrary to what Lebanese affirm about Hamas’s positive role, raises serious questions about the motives and backgrounds of the accusers which only serve the Israeli agenda.
The movement confirmed that it would legally pursue anyone who accuses and incites against them, and puts its security at risk.
Hamas further stressed that the continuation of its policies, positions and efforts aim to maintain security and confront all subversive projects in the camps within the framework of the joint Palestinian action, and such accusations will not discourage it from continuing its efforts.
