The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, sent a letter to the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the recent developments concerning Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque calling for his support.
In the letter, Haniyeh recalled the failed coup a year ago stating that the Turkish people gave on the 15th of July an inspiring lesson for all the peoples of the world, particularly those who are fighting against tyranny and oppression to restore their freedom.
Haniyeh also mentioned that latest Israeli violations of closing Al-Aqsa Mosque , preventing calls to prayer , and banning the prayers to perform Friday prayers for the first time since 1969 could be a precursor leading to the division of and control over the Al Aqsa holy mosque by the Israeli Forces .
Haniyeh concluded “ we hope to remain as you have always been the best supporter and defender of Al Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian cause in the international forums”
