Press Statement

Issued by Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’s political bureau:

The Israeli Occupation surrenders to the will of our people:

The people of Jerusalem and our Palestinian people have set a new historic stage in the course of the struggle against the Israeli Occupation. They also proved themselves as the legitimate defenders of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In light of this victory, we emphasize the following:

First, we salute the steadfastness of the people of Jerusalem in the face of the Israeli Occupation and affirm  that what happened was a new page of victory and the beginning of the end of the Israeli Occupation.

Second, the people of Jerusalem have proved yet again that they are the guardians of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian sanctities in the region.

Third,  Jerusalem is an Arab and Islamic region that will remain unalterable. Let the Israeli Occupation understand that Palestine is solely for the Palestinians, with Jerusalem as its capital without allowing the occupiers to desecrate it.  

We salute the noble resistance, the noble martyrs and heroes who have carried out operations against the Occupation which has ultimately upset and thwarted Israel’s plans to seize Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. We affirm that the joint national action between the factions of our people is one of the main reasons for our success in this battle, and that we hold more meetings to address new mechanisms in resisting the Occupation.
