The representative of Hamas, Ali Barakh, received the Norwegian Ambassador to Beirut, Lynn Lindh. The two sides reviewed the latest developments on the Palestinian issue and the situation of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
Barakah stressed that Hamas is working on achieving the Palestinian reconciliation , ending division , and forming a Palestinian national unity government to take over and to assume the responsibility of holding presidential and parliamentarian elections as well as electing a Palestinian National Council inside and outside Palestine.
He also reviewed the conditions of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and emphasized the need to alleviate their suffering through a comprehensive study of their political, humanitarian, social, legal , and security situations.
Barakah reiterated that Hamas’s goals in Lebanon are to maintain security and stability of the camps , to strengthen Lebanese-Palestinian relations, and to prevent the use of the Palestinian camps to target civilians in Lebanon.
For her part, Lindh stressed her government’s support of the Palestinian reconciliation to end the state of division and to form a Palestinian national unity government.
The ambassador also assured her country’s support for the UNRWA stressing the need to increase its budget so it may continue its role in relief and employment of Palestinian refugees. She affirmed the need to preserve security of the camps and to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
