Hamas held a general meeting with the leaders of Palestinian factions in Gaza city Monday to inform them of  the latest developments on the national reconciliation brokered by Egypt.

The meeting, which was organized by the National Relations Department in the movement, was attended by the head of the movement's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, his deputy Khalil al-Hayya, and the head of the National Relations Department in Gaza,  Salah al-Bardawil.

Haniyeh reviewed the results of the recent visit to Cairo and the files discussed with the Egyptian officials. He also informed the factions of the movement’s position about the reconciliation, stressing that it’s a strategic decision to undergo such a step.

He also said the first visit which was comprised of  Hamas leaders from Gaza, West Bank and abroad demonstrated the importance of the Egyptian role in the Palestinian cause

Regarding the Palestinian-Egyptian relations, Haniyeh pointed out that the movement firmly believes in tightening security coordination between the two, which will positively affect their national security.

In the framework of the steps to arrange the Palestinian political scene, he stressed the urgent need to re-establish the unity government, reform the PLO and agree on a political program for the current stage, pointing out that the West Bank and Gaza will be at the heart of the reconciliation path in seeking solutions to all the issues that resulted from the division.

“We also discussed with Egyptian officials the need to implement previous agreements and understandings concerning the national reconciliation which reflect positively on the Palestinian case,” Haniyeh said.

“Our stance towards others is mutual. We openly welcome any party that seeks to serve the best interests of the Palestinian people.”

Haniyeh ended his speech by reviewing the steps that will be taken to achieve a national reconciliation.

Harmonious decision

For his part, the head of the movement in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, said that Hamas is dealing with all the developments in accordance with a joint consensus reached by the movement’s components.

Sinwar added,“Hamas seeks to strengthen the Palestinian-Egyptian relations, considering that the relationship is not only related to defusing the crises, but also to serve the present and future strategic goals of Palestine and Egypt.”

He explained that Hamas has called upon concerned parties to facilitate establishment of the unity government in Gaza, stressing that Hamas has provided and will do everything necessary to ensure the success of the national reconciliation and success of the unity government.
