Head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, hosted the United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Nikolay Miladonv, in his office Monday in Gaza City. 

The meeting was attended by the head of the Hamas political bureau in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, his deputy, Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the political bureau of the movement, Nizar Awadallah, and the head of the National Relations Department in Gaza, Salah al-Bardawil.

Haniyeh briefed the envoy on the dialogues held in Cairo with the Egyptian counterparts, which focused on four points: the developments of the Palestinian political issue, the bilateral relationship with Egypt, reconciliation file and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The movement’s head stressed that Hamas is serious in achieving a national reconciliation and will continue to move forward to turn it into a reality which will ultimately pave the way for ending  major political issues and achieving the best interests of the Palestinian people.

Haniyeh praised Mr. Miladanov's position on the reconciliation, which was hailed by the envoy following Hamas’s  decision to dissolve the Administrative Council .

For his part, the head of the political bureau of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar said that Hamas will provide all means to facilitate the unity government’s work after PA officials arrive in Gaza.

Sinwar said that Hamas has taken effective steps in several directions to ensure the success of the visit and provide the necessary security measures for the officials, stressing that the decision of Hamas is to make the Egyptian efforts succeed and restore the unity of the Palestinian people and end the division.

Mr. Miladnov praised the steps taken by Hamas and stressed his keenness on the success of a national reconciliation.

He pointed out that various international parties he met in New York welcomed the position of Hamas and its recent decisions.

The UN Envoy also informed the leadership of Hamas of  the results of his New York meetings on the latest developments and the Palestinian issue.

The meeting also discussed the priorities of the movement in the next phase and the steps required for the success of the reconciliation, particularly ending the PA’s punitive measures against Gaza.
