Deputy head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Musa Abu Marzouq, said that ending the division will be based on the decisions taken by Fatah and the performance of the unity government during the next phase.
In a press interview Thursday, Abu Marzouq said that the ball is now in the court of the Fatah movement, pointing to Hamas’s keenness to make the current Palestinian reconciliation efforts succeed.
He added that Hamas had provided its own resources, overcame obstacles and withdrew pretexts for the sake of achieving a comprehensive national reconciliation.
“We have shown high flexibility and compromise to ease the suffering and to unite our people against the violations and crimes of the Israeli Occupation”, Abu Marzouq said.
Resistance
Abu Marzouq stressed that Hamas would not accept discussing the issue of its military wing during negotiations with Fatah.
He explained that this issue was not raised at the table of the delegation's discussions with Egyptian officials during the last period.
"This file is not for discussion, neither before nor in the future," he said.
“The resistance exists to protect the Palestinian people, and it is inconceivable that it disarms itself when Palestine is under occupation and its people are displaced”, Abu Marzouq reiterated.
Exchange of prisoners
Abu Marzouk revealed that the Israeli Occupation’s PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, has called on Arab and international parties to broker another exchange deal with Hamas.
“ Hamas will not negotiate this file before the release of Palestinian detainees who were re-detained by the Israeli Occupation”, he stressed.
