Hamas elects Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri as Deputy Chairman of the Movement's Political Bureau

Hamas has recently held a meeting in which it discussed the developments of the Palestinian issue at political and internal levels and the new positive atmosphere sweeping across the file of national reconciliation. 

Members of Hamas’s Shura Council discussed the great challenges facing the Palestinian issue including the on-going dangerous Israeli actions of illegal settlement expansion, Judaization of Jerusalem and the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

The participants expressed their great appreciation to all the countries that stand by our people and their resistance at various levels, all of which affirm that the Palestinian cause remains a core Islamic Arab issue.

Different challenges and threats that threaten to liquidate the Palestinian cause were also addressed by the Council and the members voiced their disagreement about the unacceptable solutions put forward by different parties, which, with deep regret don’t meet the minimum rights, aspirations and values of the Palestinian people.

The Council saluted our people in Jerusalem who rose up in the face of the Israeli Occupation in defence of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. It also praised the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, and expressed condolences to the martyrs of the Intifada as well as vowing Palestinian refugees to their right of return and detainees to their eventual freedom. 

The Council also affirmed its appreciation for Egypt's efforts to achieve a national reconciliation and which will lead to the unity of the Palestinian people, ending the division and paving the way for a new stage on the basis of full national partnership and adherence to the national rights of our Palestinian people. It also praised all the sincere efforts made to achieve the reconciliation, including national, regional and international efforts.

In this meeting, Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas. The Shura Council wishes him success with his new role and has deep faith in him for accomplishing all due tasks.
