The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have detained nearly 6500 Palestinians, including women and children, in 2022, Palestinian rights groups reported.

The IOF have detained 153 Palestinian women and 811 minors from different parts of the occupied West Bank, the groups said.

The occupation authorities issued about 2134 administrative detention orders against Palestinian citizens of the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and the 1948-occupied territories, the rights group found.

It said: “the highest number of arrests took place in occupied Jerusalem, as the occupation troops detained nearly 3000 Palestinians.”

As for the besieged Gaza Strip, the IOF have detained 106 Palestinians, including 64 fishermen. 

There were 882 children and 172 female Palestinians among those detained by the occupation forces in 2022, the rights group confirmed.

Furthermore, the occupation authorities have issued more than 2409 detention orders, under which Palestinian detainees are indefinitely incarcerated without charge or trial.

By the end of 2022, the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation jails had reached 4,700, including 29 women, nearly 150 minors, 850 detainees held without charge or trial, including seven children, and 15 journalists, according to Palestinian prisoners’ rights groups.

Some 600 sick Palestinian detainees have been languishing in Israeli occupation prisons, including nearly 200 who suffer from chronic diseases and 24 with tumours and cancer in various stages, according to the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs. 

The Israeli occupation authorities adopt a policy of collective punishment against the Palestinian people and carry out raids on Palestinian villages and towns and large-scale detention campaigns across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
