The Journalist Support Committee (JSC) has documented a dramatic rise in assaults and violations by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian reporters in a bid to suppress the truth about its human rights abuses. 

In its monthly report, the JSC said that May has witnessed more than 47 violations against Palestinian journalists across the occupied Palestinian territories.  

According to the report, the Israeli occupation army and colonial settlers shot and wounded nine journalists while covering Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem over the past month. 

The Israeli occupation army summoned and detained three media practitioners, including Palestinian journalist Ramzi Abbasi who is still being held in Israeli occupation jails.   

The JSC explained that the Israeli occupation authorities had extended the detention of Abbasi three times without charge or trial and sentenced journalist Mohammad Bader to four months in prison.  

In May, Israeli occupation forces, accompanied by Israeli colonial settlers, blocked Palestinian reporters from doing their journalistic work on more than 15 occasions.  

The non-profit organisation pointed out that the home of Palestinian journalist Yousef Faris sustained severe damage after Israeli occupation warplanes bombed a nearby house in Gaza City. 
  
As for jailed media workers, the report has documented six rights abuses against Palestinian journalists held in Israeli occupation prisons. 

Among them is Palestinian writer Walid Daqqa whose health has dramatically deteriorated due to deliberate medical negligence in Israeli occupation jails. 

The cancer-stricken detainee was transferred to an Israeli hospital after suffering complications from a surgery he had undergone to remove a large portion of his right lung, including severe respiratory suffocation and infection. 

Despite his critical condition, Daqqa was moved to the under-equipped "Ramla" prison clinic, notoriously referred to as the "slaughterhouse" by Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons.  

The 60-year-old detainee was also subjected to an incitement campaign waged by the so-called Israeli occupation minister of national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, threatening to assassinate him inside prison. 

His family also have been violently attacked by Israeli colonial settlers during a sit-in held in front of the Israeli district court of Ramla. 

As for combatting Palestinian content online, the JSC recorded more than six instances of social media giants deleting, restricting and blocking the accounts of Palestinian reporters and media organisations.
